Surf’s up in Patong

This week will see the Quiksilver Open Phuket Thailand 2012 kick off at Patong Beach.

The event, held at Kata Beach for the past couple of years, will be held at Patong and Kalim beaches this year and is expected to be bigger and better than ever. It will run from 12-15 September and as well as plenty of surfing, there will also be kitesurfing, skateboarding, a rock concert, fashion show and much more.

More than 300 surfers from around the world are expected to take part. The Phuket event also happens to be the last stop on the 2012 Asian Surfing Championship circuit – so the 2012 Asian Surfing Champions will be crowned on the last day.

Patong Language School is just a short walk from the beach, so students can easily pop on down during lunch or after classes to check out the action. If today’s weather is anything to go by, you can expect plenty of sunshine (knock on wood) … but pack a rain poncho just in case.
