There are many advantages to learning a second language. Here are a few of our favourites:
Have more fun travelling. I’m sure everyone will agree that having some knowledge and understanding of the Thai language opens doors here in Thailand that would otherwise remain closed. A little Thai can go a long way, helping you negotiate cheaper prices or make new friends who would normally be too shy to speak to you. And while they may sometimes have a giggle at your attempts, Thai people appreciate the effort! The same can be said of any language. If you want to travel somewhere, being able to speak and understand the language will help you make the most of your time there.
Better job opportunities. Speakers of more than one language also have an advantage in the job market. If you want to have an edge on other job-seekers and have more opportunities available to you, add another language to your belt.
Become more attractive. Ok, that’s one we hadn’t heard before, but a recent survey of online dating websites concluded that bilingual people are more attractive than those who only speak one language. Hey, we’re not going to argue with that!
Make more money. Many businesses want people especially for their language skills. Multilingual employees will often earn more than their counterparts – sometimes as much as 20% more!
